UCSD’s original bridge across Crystal Lake Park was installed in the 1950s to unobtrusively contain the sewer that connects what was then the northwest edge of Champaign the UCSD Northeast Treatment Plant. The bridge was extensively rehabilitated in the 1980s. It is being replaced this year. Later in September, the sewage flow will be switched from the old bridge into the new one. Then the original one will be removed.
